I have been feeling like that Turkey that's running around trying to prevent it's fate. Everytime I leave the store it seems I've forgotten one more item. I definately didn't want to be that fool in the store on the day of. Neither did the cashiers because this year a lot of markets here had their signs posted WE WILL BE CLOSED ON THANKSGIVING. I guess 11/20 everyone and their mama had the same idea because the store was packed!!! I had taken my kids with me thinking we would be in and out. I took about 2 hours because with them in tow it's a little harder to concentrate. I get my goods and head home one thing off my majorly long list.
Now that I am over the fustration of my family coming over but not helping with the preparation or anything, I have gone back to my plan to make my house real festive. I could just see my table all decorated and the house smelling like yummy traditional foods. My daughter associates Thanksgiving with the smell of collard greens so if I am cooking them any other time she asks, "Is it Thanksgiving or something? I smell collard greens."
So I had been getting these Christmas tree store flyers all month featuring beautiful decor and table linens. I make a plan to take a trip there on a Sunday 11/21 only to find they had nothing I was interested in.
All week long I am brainstorming what to do. I so expect my job to let us out early on Thanksgiving eve so I could head over to Bed n'Bath and then home to start my cooking. My regular time to leave is 3pm and after lunch my boss announces, "Hey everybody can leave early at 3pm?!
So I pick up both of my kids and do as originally planned. Soon as we walk in practically my daughter sees a table cloth she likes and I agree it's something I approve of. I found matching napkins and rings that said Family, Tradition,Love,Memories I grabbed some Yankee candles- Christmas cook and headed home to put my plan for a festive Thanksgiving.
Cooking kept me up until 2 am and up again at 8 to get ready. Everything is ready I usually cook every year but I am still nervous as to if everything is going to taste good. Sisters, brothers, nieces, nephew, mother, stepfather arrive all is forgiven. Everyone is saying how pretty the table looks and my daughter even adds some unexpected flavor to the decorations by tying brown ribbons (which came off a gift wrapped by SB.com) around the wine glasses.
Everything was wonderful and most of all spent with the family I love.
Wow, Martha Stewart! Your place setting looks so nice, I am inspired to kick it up a notch myself for the next holiday!
